Opening concert
Harmonium Piano Duo

Friday, October 1st, 2021,
7:30 pm

Marie-Noëlle Bette, square piano
Joris Verdin, physharmonica

When the "orgue expressif" was invented at the beginning of the 19th century composers began at once to try out the rich diversity of sound combinations of this new species of musical instruments in solo pieces as well as in chamber music.
This allows us to present you a cross section of works for the early version of the Harmonium Piano Duo: played on the square piano and the physharmonica. For an authentic interpretation Marie-Noëlle and Joris will bring their valuable instruments by Müller (1851) and Klems (1853).

Harmonium meets... cinema

Harmonium
directed by Koji Fukada

Koji Fukada's film "Harmonium" was released at Cannes in 2016, but never found its way into German cinemas. We may now exclusively show this drama in the original Japanese version with German subtitles, in which a seemingly normal, harmonious family life breaks down in a creeping and ominous way.

Duo concert
Bach på Svenska

Saturday, October 2nd, 2021,
7:30 pm

Lisa Rydberg, violin
Gunnar Idenstam, harmonium

Already at the first European Harmonium Festival in 2015, the two were guests with their project "Bach in Swedish" and thrilled the audience of the opening concert with their virtuosity and spirited way of interpreting.
It has been high time to invite Lisa and Gunnar once again, with a new program, to bridge the gap between the world of Johann Sebastian Bach and the traditional Swedish folk music and to simply marvel at this relationship...

This concert was realized with economical support by Konstnärsnämnden (Swedish Arts Council), Sweden
Portrait concert II
Sigfrid Karg-Elert
The suction harmonium

Sunday, October 3rd, 2021,
11:00 am

Anna Hendriksen, German flute
Michael Behrendt, harmonium

A particularly interesting encounter brings up the Sunday matinee showing the wide range of sound language in Sigfrid Karg-Elert's works for the suction type harmonium.
Even the purists, who regard the pressure wind instrument as the only true harmonium, are likely to think about while listening to the selection of works ranging from late Romanticism to Impressionism, framed by a trip to the Baroque.
After all, Karg-Elert has dedicated a whole volume of his "Die Kunst des Registrierens" to the suction harmonium also - without reservation.

Final concert
Saeldes Sanc

Sunday, October 3rd, 2021,
3:00 pm

Hannah Wagner, voice and piano
Johanna Richter, violoncello
Klaus Langer, harmonium and recitation

Saeldes Sanc, the "singing of bliss", but also the tragedy of the medieval courtly love are the focus of the work of the composer and singer Hannah Wagner.
As nobody nowadays knows how the ballads in Middle High German, Old English and Old French language sounded in music it is all the more exciting how Hannah brings these texts to life in her compositions and with her magnificent voice.
Beneath the congenial cellist Johanna Richter, Klaus Langer also adds bourdons and melodical sounds with the harmonium today; the logical consequence of their "let's try something together".
